Welcome to the 224 (Hexham) Squadron Website
Welcome to the 224 (Hexham) Squadron website. Please take the time to have a look at all the different sections, which will give you the opportunity to keep up to date with the goings-on at 224.
The Air Training Corps (sometimes referred to as ‘Air Cadets’) offers an incredible range of activities and training for young people from 13 years upwards, and is a great place to try something new, develop your skills and make loads of new friends.
224 Squadron has an excellent bunch of instructors who hold qualifications in many different areas, so we can run all kinds of activities – from archery to mountain biking, from live firing to radio training, from campcraft to foot drill...and many more! All of the activities we offer use the appropriate staff, and most are at very low (or no) cost to the Cadet. We also get together with the RAF to do our flying and gliding (not as a passenger, actually learning to fly the thing!) and for residential camps on RAF bases.
ATC Cadets can also achieve individual qualifications - Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards, National Navigation Awards, and BTEC qualifications in aviation, public services and music. However, the most important things a Cadet can gain are skills - leadership, teamwork, communication, problem solving...the list goes on!
Have a look around our website, maybe you’ll see some familiar faces, and maybe you’ll see some activities which make you think ‘I’d like to have a go at that’. There’s loads to try, loads to get involved with, loads of people to meet and places to go – loads of fun to be had - so why not give it a try!
To join, pop down to the Squadron HQ on a Wednesday or Friday night, or if you have any questions drop us an email via this site. The sky’s the limit!
Regards
Flight Lieutenant Heather Farrimond RAFVR(T)
Officer Commanding 224 Sqn ATC
