First Aid

First aid is a vitally important skill, all cadets on the squadron receive first aid training accredited by the St Johns Ambulance. It is hoped that cadets are never in the situation where they need to use their first aid skills but it is better to be prepared.

The course is often held over a full weekend and covers the following topics:

  • Bites and Stings
  • Bleeding
  • Bone, muscle and joint injuries
  • Burns and scalds
  • Chest Pains
  • Choking
  • Communication and casualty care
  • Coping in an emergency
  • Electric Shock
  • Fainting
  • First Aid Kit
  • Foreign Objects
  • Head Injuries
  • Heat Exhaustion
  • Hypothermia
  • Low Blood Sugar
  • Poisons
  • Primary Survey
  • Recovery Position
  • Resuscitation
  • Seizures
  • Severe allergic reaction
  • Spinal injury

After a practical assessment cadets are awarded the St Johns Ambulance Youth First Aid award certificate and badge for their brassard.
