History
224 (Hexham) Squadron has achieved many things since being founded in 1941. Though currently some of the Squadron History is missing we have a comprehensive history from 1983. We know at this point in time Hexham was 1248 Detached Flight. Here are some of the highlights in 224 (Hexham) Squadron's history.
1st May 1983 1248 D/F comes 2nd place at Durham Northumberland Wing Athletics - B class
January 1984 1238 D/F comes 3rd place at Durham Northumberland Wing Cross Country.
1986 An article is published in the Hexham Courant, stating 1248 is nearly at Squadron Status
13th November 1987 1248 D/F becomes 224 (Hexham) Squadron.
16th February 1988 Scroll presented to 224 (Hexham) Squadron to mark becoming a Squadron.
7th June 1992 224 (Hexham) Squadron win first ever Durham Northumberland Wing Drill Competition
23rd April 1993 Cadets teach drill to actors at the Queen's Hall
18th June 1993 Lucy Griffiths gains only Durham Northumberland Wing IACE place
1994 224 (Hexham) Squadron win Durham Northumberland Wing Competition
1995 224 (Hexham) Squadron win Durham Northumberland Wing Competition
1996 224 (Hexham) Squadron win Durham Northumberland Wing Competition
1997 Whilst taking part in 131 (City Of Newcastle) Squadron's 24 hour charity "le Mans" 224 (Hexham) Squadron win Most Generous Pit Crew and Reliant Robin Award.
October 1997 6 cadets achieve the first ever Duke of Edinburgh awards on the Squadron.
19th February 1998 Puma Flights at Newcastle Airport.
9th November 1998 Blind cadet Robert Jewitt gains his marksman award.
