Public Events

Cadets at 224 (Hexham) Squadron attend a few of public events every year. This is to boost the profile of the squadron, help the smooth running of the event and sometimes receive a kind donation that goes towards running the squadron.

The Horse Trials

The Horse Trials, held in Hexham, is an event 224 cadets have been attending for many years. At the horse trials the horses compete in three different events; dressage, show jumping and cross country. The aim of the cadets being there is to ensure the horses and the public get to the correct place safe and without injury. Some of the duties included are putting the show jumps back together after a horse has knocked them over, keeping the public of the cross country track and ensuring horses cross the road safely to get to the dressage arena. The event is great fun over two days and the cadets are usually given free food and drink vouchers to keep their energy levels up.

The County Show

Every may the Northumberland County Show comes to Corbridge, a five minute drive from Hexham. The County Show is a busy and crowded day and cadets are needed to help the event run smoothly and safely. Typical duties include patrolling the tents to ensure exits remain free in the event of a fire, helping the stall owners set up and car parking. The cadets get plenty of breaks to enjoy the show and recruit some new cadets.

The cadets sometimes attend the Traction Rally and Blanchland Show but it depends on the squadrons calendar as some of the events are on the same days.
